Story of the Apache Kid Told by Paul Machula for ALS
On Monday evening, Jan. 19, historian and teacher Paul Machula will tell the complex and mysterious story of the Apache Kid, as part of the 2009 Arizona Lecture Series put on by the Apache Junction Unified School District.
Machula calls the Apache Kid “one of the greatest enigmas in American history” - a man whose life was full of incredible circumstances and great tragedy.
Almost all of the Kid’s story took place in the Globe/Miami/ San Carlos area at the foot of the Pinal Mountains in the late 1800s. Integral to the saga is the clash of cultures during that time which greatly influenced the unfolding of the Apache Kid’s life. Was he a renegade or a victim? Machula will share his own personal insights into this question.
Paul Machula is a native of the Globe/Miami area and has taken a keen interest in the Apache Kid since childhood. Much of his presentation comes from original records’ research and interviews he has conducted with descendants of people personally involved in the saga.
Pre-sale individual tickets to this lecture at the cost of $5.00, as well as Season Tickets that for $50 are still a bargain, are available in the Community Services Office of the Apache Junction Unified School District located in the Administrative Building at the corner of Southern Ave. and Ironwood Drive.
The ALS lecture presentations are performed every Monday evening from January into April. Location is the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on the campus of Apache Junction High School, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive.
Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and Discover) are now being accepted and tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling 480-982-1110, ext. 2014, or by going online to http://www.ajusd.org and clicking on “PAC Tickets” at the bottom of the page.
Tickets will also be available at the door on the evening of the event at the PAC box office until sold out. Seating is on a first come, first served basis with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Curtain rises at 7 p.m.

Brad Zinn Recreates ‘The Great Comedians’ for PES
Talented comedian and impressionist Brad Zinn will perform his one-man tribute to “The Great Comedians,” on Thursday evening, January 15 as part of the Apache Junction Public Events Series.
In it, Zinn authentically recreates the wit, wisdom and philosophies of 23 funny men who shaped American pop culture humor over the airwaves during the last century.
This comedic honor roll consists of Will Rogers, W.C. Fields, George Burns, Jack Benny, Red Skelton, Johnny Carson, Jimmy Durante, Groucho Marx and 15 others whom Zinn has gone to great lengths to bring alive to audiences, even researching and using their original material.
Zinn learned to spin a rope like Will Rogers and play a violin like Jack Benny, and utilizes his considerable vocal talents to infuse music into the program, even performing an original closing song he wrote for the program.
Anyone who remembers the Golden Age of Television won’t want to miss this lighthearted 90 minutes of theater that mixes 23 classic comedians and more than 200 laughs!
