Glendale Police remind citizens to be
aware of storm dangers and drive safely
GLENDALE, Ariz. –The valley may experience rainfall in the next few days that exceeds precipitation we usually receive in the course of an entire year! Due to this the Glendale Police Department would like to advise citizens of road closures due to flooding. Please visit our website at http://www.glendaleaz.com for information updated hourly.
Sand bags can be obtained at three locations in the city;
Orangewood Park, located at 55th Avenue and Orangewood
Glendale Community Center, located at 59th Avenue and Hearn
Bonsal Park, located at 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road
We also have some simple safety reminders to share:
Never drive into a flooded area. Just two feet of water can float a large vehicle. STOP, TURN AROUND, AND FIND A DIFFERENT ROUTE.
Stay informed of weather conditions and plan ahead.
Be patient while driving. Flooded areas are usually accompanied with slick road conditions.
If you are caught in swift water, call 911 and stay in your vehicle. Just 6 inches of swift water is enough to knock a person off of his/her feet.
Remember, in the event of a power outage, traffic lights can be affected. If this occurs along the route you are driving, stop at the intersection and make sure the way is clear before you proceed. An intersection with non operational lights should be treated as a 4 way stop.
