GSBill, how about I just continue not caring about a lame town center plan? Nobody has voted on the crap the town has packed into that plan in years, if ever. What I would really like to see downtown is a liquor store, a sleazy bar, and about twenty or thirty illegal aliens milling about. I sure hope that's part of the plan.

Thanks for pointing out what everyone already knew UnNamed_Sources. Any other breaking scoopes for us?

If it's town money you are planning to dole out to small businesses, then you probably aren't an improvement from the spend happy crowd that is vacating the council seats.

I'm starting to like this Daniel Hall guy...

Did he really "bring it home" for you when you watched the video clips of the recent candidate forum? http://www.flickr.com/photos/eastvalleyindependent/sets/72157623192324845/

Obviously not, since he didn't even attend.

Not really. Was it burried in a bunch of other stuff voted on at once?

You need to get out more. Do your own homework.

He mentioned on the other thread that taxes are too high. The reality is that most residents don't give a rip about the town center plan, it's really just more tax giveaway to the small business owners in the town center.

The town is like a golddigging trophy wife who spends wantonly on whatever passes her fancy. She doesn't need somebody to pat her on the head for spending money on nice things, she needs someone to take away the credit cards.

One argument has nothing to do with the other. The Town Center Plan was approved by the voters in Queen Creek. Obviously enough residents gave a rip to approve the plan via a vote.

Are you kidding me!? His answer is the equivalent of saying, 'we have a town center plan?

Reality is we do. Voter approved after lots of work by many people.

The guy didn't even care to show up at the candidate forum.  I do not see him as a serious candidate.

Audri Mansour is showing to be consistent. Consistent in not responding to the questions. She didn't answer this one and didn't answer the questionnaire. http://www.az.newszapforums.com/forum27/103573.html

Get used to seeing a lot of this apparently, Audri Mansour did not respond.

Is her internet connection down so that she can't plagiarize some good responses?

This pi$$e$ me off when we have no information on why they are running for office and then they skip out on the questions.

Gail Barney will be the Mayor, that is not in question since he is running unopposed after his first cousin decided not to run, but he is falling right back to the same habit as he did last election cycle when he didnt answer a good number of the Arizona Republic questions. Ironically, him not answering the second question flies in the face of his answer to their first question.

How do you intend to deal with requests and complaints from constituents, if elected? "I will use whatever form of communication necessary to answer the concern. It may be in person, by e-mail or by telephone. It may be myself or a staff person who knows about the concern." (quote by Gail Barney)

I've written to the town council on a few occassions over the past three years and Gail Barney has never once returned my email or letter. Only Jeff Brown and Jon Wootten have returned all of them and Craig Barnes has returned most of them.

Queen Creek candidates share ideas to revitalize downtown

Ask the candidates
Queen Creek is updating its Town Center plan. We asked the seven candidates for Town Council and the sole mayoral candidate for one update they'd make to the plan that could help revitalize downtown.

Mayoral candidate Gail Barney and council candidate Audri Mansour did not respond.

Queen Creek's Town Center plan is a great vision for the future of downtown Queen Creek. The district would benefit greatly from signage throughout the downtown area and along the Ellsworth Loop. The signage could direct drivers and pedestrians to the downtown area, and to the various businesses and [font=""]shops. Such signage would help inform passers-by of the downtown area, who might otherwise pass by on the loop without being aware of this area.

- John Alston

I have worked the traffic plan for the area as part of the Transportation Advisory Committee. The Town Center Committee is about to make its recommendations to council for the beautification elements and land use changes. I believe we need to focus on programs to attract and retain small businesses such as grants and microloans. We need to increase the visibility of our businesses with additional signage and events that encourage people to visit Town Center.

- Chris Clark

That's where the problem has been. I would not make any updates or changes. The people of the town should.

It seems like everywhere now, government is all about what they think is best without getting the people involved. I talk to my friends and neighbors, and they have no idea what the Town Center plan is. That should tell you that the residents are not asked to be involved.

- Daniel Hall

I would like to see lodging accommodations put in on Ellsworth Road, south of Ocotillo Road. This type of business would not only fill the need for people that visit from out of town, but encourage residents who have family and friends staying in those accommodations to visit the downtown area with them. This location would allow guests to walk to local businesses and be a short distance to Founders Park.

- Dawn Oliphant

I am serving on the Town Center committee and feel that the committee is looking at all the possible ways to revitalize the area. I had my concerns about the plan and voiced my opinions, and they took them under advisement. The landscaping, sidewalks, lighting, all the infrastructure has been discussed and recommended to council. The committee has done an excellent job working on the plan. I would not change anything. Things take time.

- Toni Valenzuela

I have read through the suggested Town Center plan update in its entirety. I would like to thank the committee and council for putting foresight into the development of Queen Creek. If everything listed in the town plan was implemented, it would result in a perfect small-town America downtown.

- Julia Wheatley
